Tyranids WIP: Neural Node

It's a lot of brain power coming up for my army this month as I attempt to paint up 730 points of the Tyranid Neural Node Formation. The formation consists of 1 Malaceptor, 6 Zoanthropes and 3 Neurothropes. I started off by painting the Maleceptor. It's rules and points costs appear to be quite crappy, but it is a damn fine looking model haha!
I primed the model black and gave it about 2 coats of Game Color Parasite Brown.
I have tried a few Game Color paints and I must say they give really good coverage. Lots of pigments in their paints methinks. As a side note, the color smelled sweet lol!
I then highlighted/ painted on the raised areas and also put some net patterns on the carapace using Citadel Ratskin Flesh.
I went for a random lattice network of lines on the carapace to represent the complex neural makeup of the creature.
Above pic of Malaceptor with finished highlights using Citadel color Vomit Brown to the skin and fleshy areas.
I then washed the model with Reikland Fleshshade concentrating on the recesses. Then a super watered down coat of Khrone Red.
I went over some of the mistakes with Parasite Brown again and then started on the brain areas of the creature. Also added on some dull greens on on the model to represent its maybe having acidic ichor.
I used Citadel Bugmans Glow for the base color of the exposed brains. Then highlighted them with Kislev Flesh. I then washed it with Reikland Fleshshade again. Once dried, I washed some Leviathan Purple in the recesses. I then re-highlighted the brain areas with Kislev Flesh. Added a bit of Pallid Wych Flesh for final highlights and the brainsss are done.

I was quite satisfied with the result of the skin color. It didn't take too many coats and could was finished in a relatively short period of time.

So I prepared the Zoanthropes for the same treatment of glorious paint.
I put another layer of PVA glue on top of the basing that was dried to give a firmer hold on the sand.
And they are all ready for priming.
And here they are primed. Time to layer on the base colors.

Have a great rest of the week everyone, for the weekend beckcons :)
