This is my first miniature painted specially for 1st January 2012, the first day of the new year!
A bit of speed painting was needed for this one as i wanted to make the deadline. A total of 3-4 hours work, no blending was done at all, only (slightly crude) lines of highlight ;)
I mainly stuck to a largely greenish template with some gold thrown in to make him look more regal. I chose the name as it was close to my inspiration of the Wizard of Oz. Also a reminder of Percy Shelley's poem that no matter how mighty an empire or leader, decline through the ages appear to be inevitable.
Without further ado, i present...
Lord Ozymandias, The Emerald King
In game, i will use him mainly as a footslogger, leading a unit of Necron Warriors who will all no doubt benefit from his Relentless rule :)
A better view of the Warscythe that Oz here wields in battle.
The Resurrection Orb in his left hand is actually a small glass bead i left unpainted. Its got a nice sheen and reflection to it as well as an interesting pea green color. I also attempted to replicate the color of the glass bead on the stave of the Warscythe.
Back view. Some detailing work done as well on the back of his robe.
An slightly angled view to the front to show the detail on his robe, especially the circuit board motif.
More to come..Dramatis Personae WIP
I'll also be doing up 3 more characters, a Necron Lord and 3 Crypteks in the fashion of The Wizard of Oz. All are still Very WIP.
"The Lion"
No pic yet as he is in pieces at the moment lol!
I'll be using the model from Warmachine Cryx Lich Lord Venethrax to represent a Necron Overlord, or a Vagard for the Phaeron. He will be Oz's Lion.
"Tin Man"
The other characters are The Tin Man.
Probably using the plastic Necron Lord (above) from the Catacomb Command Barge. Maybe put a bloody heart in his outstretch metallic hand as a parody hehe!
"Scarecrow"
For the Scarecrow, i used a conversion between the driver of the Ghost Ark with a standard Necron Warrior. I mixed in some bitz from the Tomb Kings range. He looks skinny and strangely appropriate for the part. Maybe some spilled brains from the skull of a dead guardsman to bring out the Oz story theme..
"Dorothy"
And finally, Dorothy or The Dorothean as i will re-rename her ;)
I have already mostly painted her up a while back. Yup, its the Tomb Queen Khalida model! I'll probably color her cloak greenish to tie in with the emerald color scheme.
Hope everyone has had a great time ushering in the New Year! I wish everyone a happy holiday tomorrow :))
"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain! The Great Oz has spoken!"
~The Wizard of Oz
Ozymandias looks brilliant! Great detail with the circuit board robes!
ReplyDeleteHi Sam great painting hadn't seem some updates and was worried you stopped playing. Too bad you are not in Aus anymore or else I could play against you with my new guard army.
ReplyDeleteHey guys, thanks for the kind words :)
ReplyDeleteSorry bout the late reply. I was down with nurgle's rot (chest infection) for a few days. Now almost fully recovered.
@RhydPedr
Oz was my first test model for the circuit board robes, but am pretty happy with how it turned out ;)
@thach
